RAWALPINDI: Additional Commissioner (coordination) Saif Anwar Jappa said food items were available in Ramazan bazaars at subsidised rates.

He directed the concerned officers to adopt appropriate strategy so that there would be no shortage of essential items. Also, all items should be sold at subsidised rates in packing of one kg or one dozen per person so that more and more people can take advantage of the subsidy.

He directed that a senior officer should be posted along with the officials in every Ramazan bazaar to ensure possible relief to the people.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held to review the arrangements for Ramazan bazaars.

Briefing on the measures taken on a daily basis regarding price control, the participants were informed that 1,095 raids were carried out in the district in the last 24 hours and 138 violations were reported on which a fine of Rs30,500 was imposed, two shops were sealed and three people arrested.

Mr Jappa directed that special attention should be paid to the monitoring of Ramazan bazaars as well as general markets, wholesalers and retailers so that there is no profiteering and artificial price hike.

The meeting was also informed that Rawalpindi Division had 33 Ramazan bazaars with 33 fair price shops and 1,195 stalls where essentials commodities were available at the concession of 20-25 per cent. Also, sugar will be available at Rs80 per kg and wheat flour of 10 kg bag at Rs450.
