PESHAWAR: A man shot dead a transgender person in Jangi Mohallah area in the limits of Khan Raziq police station here on Friday.

It was the third such incident of targeting transgender persons in the province in less than a week.

A police official told Dawn that the slain transgender person identified as Mano was friend with a local identified as Sanaullah.

He said that Sanaullah got married sometimes back and Mano was not happy over his friend’s marriage and would quarrel with him. He said that on Friday Sanaullah allegedly shot dead Mano after an argument and fled the scene.

Police have registered an FIR against the suspect.

Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested three suspects, including a woman, on the charges of killing a polio worker in Daudzai area of the city earlier this month.

Addressing a press conference at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, SSP operations Haroon Rashid Khan said the slain polio worker was in a relationship with the area’s polio in-charge.

He said the polio in-charge’s wife got the polio worker murdered at the hands of hired killers. He said that she had paid Rs500,000 to the hired killers.

SSP Khan said the police had arrested two of the hired assassins and wife of the polio in-charge. He identified the alleged killers as Jawad and Samiullah and also recovered the pistol and bike used in the murder.

The polio worker was shot dead in Daudzai area on March 2.
