ISLAMABAD: Former diplomat Shaukat Ali Mukadam on Friday filed an appeal before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking to enhance the sentence of Zahir Jaffer for murdering his daughter Noor Mukadam.

Mr Mukadam has filed three appeals through his counsel Shah Khawar seeking increase in the sentences of Zahir Jaffer and his domestic staff, Mohammad Iftikhar and Jan Mohammad.

An additional district and sessions judge on Feb 24 announced the verdict of the case convicting the main accused, Zahir Jaffer, and handed him the death sentence, while domestic servants of Jaffer’s family Mohammad Iftikhar and Jan Mohammad — the co-accused in the case — were sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The appellant stated that despite ample evidence, the trial court judge convicted Zahir Jaffer for one count only and handed down a 10-year jail term to his active accomplices. The appellant requested the IHC to increase punishment of the convicts.
