BAHAWALPUR: A tanker laden with over 30,000 litres of liquid caustic soda overturned around Chowk Azam on Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar highway in the outskirts of the city on Monday.
According to police sources, the tanker was on its way to Rahim Yar Khan from Lahore. Near the flyover whose one side road was closed for repair, the tanker driver in a bid to save traffic coming from the opposite direction lost control over the vehicle which skidded off the road and overturned in the forest area.
On receipt of information, National Highway & Motorway Police personnel reached the scene and shifted the injured driver to the hospital. The tanker was still lying overturned in the jungle.
FOUND DEAD: A married woman was found dead in her house near Mubarakpur, about 40 kms from here on Monday.
As per the police, Abdul Latif said his daughter Asma Bibi (20) was alone during his absence in his house. He said on his return, he found her dead. The police sources claimed that instead of reporting the incident to Nowshehra Jadid police and taking his daughter to Mubarakpur health centre for confirmation of her death, Latif began preparations for her burial.
On receiving information, the station house officer rushed to the scene and shifted the body to health centre for postmortem examination.
KAFAALAT CARDS: Over 100,000 Ehsaas Kafaalat cards will be distributed in the district.
This was stated at a meeting addressed by MPA Samiullah Chaudhry and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathiya here on Monday.
The meeting was informed that over 54,000 cards in tehsil Ahmedpur, about 25,000 in two tehsils of Bahawalpur followed by 8,554, 12,499 and 10,357 in Khairpur Tamewali,Yazman and Hasilpur would be distributed, respectively.
