DADU: Police in the Lal Bagh area of Jamshoro district sprung into action upon receiving information about a hand grenade lying at a desolate place on Sunday.

Officers and personnel from the Sehwan police station moved swiftly to the place and called out the bomb disposal squad (BDS) after cordoning off the Lal Bagh area.

Jamshoro SSP Javed Baloch issued necessary directives to the police officers as soon as the information was conveyed to him.

The SSP said the BDS rushed to the spot, safely defused the grenade and took it into custody. He said police deployment at sensitive points was made to prevent people from coming close to the site.

Hyderabad DIG Syed Pir Mohammad Shah told local reporters that security across Sehwan had already been beefed up for the three-day 770th urs of great Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar beginning on March 20. More security measures had now been taken in the wake of the discovery of the grenade, he added. He said patrolling in and around Sehwan was being intensified and snap checking along the highway and Sehwan-Hyderabad road was being conducted.
