GUJRANWALA, Nov 29: A proclaimed offender was killed while an assistant sub-inspector sustained injuries in an ‘encounter’ near Nosheran Virkan here on Tuesday evening.

On a tip-off, a police party, led by SHO Amir Shaheen, raided Muhammadpura locality to arrest M Azam. On seeing the police, he opened fire. During an encounter, he was killed while ASI Abdul Wahid sustained injuries.

A police official said Azam was the resident of Shiekhupura district and wanted in more than 40 cases.

Nullah Deg bridges: Work on four bridges over Nullah Deg in Wahando will be completed within the stipulated period.

This was stated by Federal Parliamentary Secretary and MNA Rana Umer Nazir while speaking at the inauguration of Wahando nullah bridge on Monday.

The MNA said that a sum of Rs100 million would also be spent on desilting and widening of the Nullah Deg.

He said that residents of four villages had been demanding for the last several years that the bridge should be constructed over Nullah Deg. He said during his election campaign he had made promise with the people for the construction of the bridge.

Mr Nazir said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had given approval and released funds for the purpose.

He assured that rest of the development projects in Wahando would also be got completed.

REMAND GRANTED: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Monday granted a three-day more physical remand of an accused involved in kidnapping a minor boy for ransom and latter killing him in Baghbanpura here.

It was reported that the police had failed to arrest real culprits involved in the kidnap-cum-murder case of Hamza. Instead, the police had arrested public call office owner Maqsood Ahmad.
