KARACHI: Armed robbers raped a teenage girl after robbing her family of cash and valuables in their Surjani Town house late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

They said two robbers barged into a house in Sector-C-A while their third accomplice reportedly stayed outside. They held the family at gunpoint, looted Rs24,000 and jewellery from them.

Area SHO Haji Sanaullah said that when the family tried to put up resistance, the robbers beat them, raped a 17-year-old girl and escaped.

The police lodged an FIR against unknown persons on the complaint of the father of the victim girl under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

West Zone DIG Nasir Aftab and West SSP Suhai Aziz visited the scene of crime and met with the victim family. They assured the family of early arrest of the suspects.
