KHYBER: The Pakistan Community Support Project (PCSP) has renovated and rehabilitated a basic health unit in Jamrud tehsil.
The renovation and rehabilitation of a health centre and a girls primary school, and pavement of streets is also under way in Landi Kotal tehsil.
PCSP district manager Haider Saeed told reporters that those projects were carried out in Lala Cheena, Jamrud and Nikkikheland Sultankhel areas.
He said the Lala Cheena BHU, which was built in 1961, was renovated and was provided with drinking water and solarised to ensure smooth electric supply.
Mr Saeed said the PCSP also built a waiting room for women, a washroom at the civil dispensary in Sultankhel area, and ensured supply of drinking water.
Also, the boundary wall of the Government Girls Primary School, Nikkikhel, was repaired, while two rooms were constructed for the girls, who attended classes in the open.
The PCSP manager said on the demand of local community, four streets were paved with an underground drainage system.
On the occasion, project director Talat Fahad said the PCSP was providing development opportunities to the communities on their doorstep with the support of the World Bank.
She said the initiative was meant to improve the people’s access to infrastructure and basic services and strengthening their involvement in the projects’ execution.
“A total of Rs62.5 million funds have been allocated for the rehabilitation of eight government primary schools and eight basic health facilities,” she said.
