KARACHI: A huge fire erupted in an industrial unit in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday and partially damaged the building, police and fire officials said.

A Fire Brigade official said that the blaze erupted in a chemical factory located in Mehran Town, Korangi at around 10.55am.

Initially, a few fire engines were sent to extinguish the blaze. However, realising the gravity of the situation, fire engines from across the city were called.

It was declared a ‘third-degree’ fire. Around two dozen fire engines took part in the firefighting operation and managed to control it at 5.24pm.

Quoting factory owner Farhan, the fire official said an electric short circuit allegedly triggered the fire.

No loss of life was reported in the incident. However, the building was partially damaged and goods were destroyed.
