TOBA TEK SINGH: Jhang Additional District and Sessions Judge Fayyaz Ahmad Butter on Tuesday handed down death sentence to three men for gang rape of a girl.

According to the prosecution, Asad Ali, Zafar Iqbal and Muhammad Usman, all residents of Chak Misson Chellawala, had forced their entry into the house of an 18-year-old girl on June 5, 2020, when her parents were not at home. They gang-raped the victim at gunpoint. They were arrested by police soon after the incident.

CONVICTED: A special court in Faisalabad handed down eight-year imprisonment and Rs0.5m to a convict in a human trafficking case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Complainant Irshad Ahmad had said in his first information report that Muhammad Munir had extorted Rs0.5m from him for sending him to South Africa for work but he misappropriated his money with fraud. The convict who was on bail was arrested after the court gave the verdict against him. The court also ordered him to pay Rs0.5m to the complainant.

ARRESTED: Faisalabad Madina Town police arrested a man who had set his wife ablaze at Himmatpura locality of Faisalabad.

Muhammad Siddique had put his wife Saba on fire over a domestic dispute. Complainant Muhammad Younas had complained to police that Siddique had sprayed kerosene oil on his daughter and set her ablaze. As a result, most of her body was burnt.

OBITUARY: Industrialist and former federal textile minister Chaudhry Mushtaq Cheema died in a hospital at Faisalabad after a protracted illness.

The deceased was the brother of a former PPP leader and Faisalabad tehsil nazim the late Mumtaz Cheema.

Scores of people, including parliamentarians and industrialists, attended his funeral prayers at Faisalabad. He was a former chairman of the Faisalabad Dry Port also.
