Shock defeats for Nicol, Power

Karachi, Nov 25: A dramatic day of action in the men’s Qatar Classic squash in Doha saw England’s Peter Nicol and Canada’s Jonathon Power both beaten in major second round upsets in Doha on Thursday.

Sixth seed Nicol lost to fellow Briton John White 11-7, 8-11, 11-10,10-11, 11-8.

White will now face top seed Thierry Lincou after the Frenchman outclassed unseeded Malaysian Ong Beng Hee 11-10, 11-4, 11-5.

The second upset was registered when world No2 Jonathon Power retired after losing two games against Australian qualifier Alan Boswell 11-7, 11-6.

Alex Gough became the second qualifier to reach the last eight when he defeated fellow qualifier Davide Bianchetti, from Italy 11-8, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7.
