More child jockeys arrive

LAHORE, Nov 25: Another batch of 64 Pakistani child jockeys arrived here from Abu Dhabi on Friday. Officials of the Overseas Pakistani Foundations, Unicef and Child Protection Welfare Bureau received them at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The children were later shifted to the CPWB for rehabilitation. They were between six and 14 years of age and most of them belonged to Southern Punjab.

Unlike the previous batches the children were not accompanied by their parents for what the officials claimed to avoid arrest on the charges of human smuggling.

The United Arab Emirates had started the process of sending some 3,000 Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sudani and Maurtius children used as camel jockeys in June this year.

UAE, Qatar and Oman governments had banned the children under 16 in camel race.
