ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the government would not tolerate elements violating law, disrupting religious harmony and instigating violence through hate material and other methods. He was presiding over a high-level meeting held on Thursday to review the law and order situation and progress in implementation of judicial and administrative reforms in the Northern Areas.

The prime minister stressed the need for coordination among various civil, military and political agencies responsible for maintaining law and order and running administrative affairs.

He said all required resources would be provided to law-enforcement agencies and special incentives would be given to officers posted in the Northern Areas. He said the number of judicial officers would be increased and they would be given full protection. He directed that vacancies in the Armed Reserve Police be filled immediately.

The prime minister also reviewed the economic situation of the region and asked the Northern Areas chief secretary to submit a comprehensive plan for economic development.

He said the plan should focus on tourism, mineral resources and cottage industry development. He directed all agencies to take strict measures to maintain law and order in the area.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers and secretaries of education, interior, and religious affairs departments, chief secretary Northern Areas, Vice Chief of General Staff, commander FCNA, IG Northern Areas, and other officials.
