PESHAWAR: The Counter Terrorism Department arrested a facilitator of the militant Islamic State group’s Khorasan chapter (IS-K) in the Jamil Chowk area on the Ring Road here on Thursday.

A CTD statement issued here identified the facilitator as Abdul Wadud, a resident of Kunar province of Afghanistan, who was currently living in Peshawar. It said that the accused was arrested in connection with the Dec 20, 2021, clash in Sardar Colony near Ring Road in which three IS-K terrorists were killed.

Earlier on Wednesday, the CTD personnel killed an IS-K commander during a search and strike operation in Akharwal area of Darra Adamkhel. The slain IS-K commander was identified as Bilal alias Maulvi Obaidullah, who was shot dead during the operation.

The statement said that the operation was launched following a grenade attack on a police mobile in the Badhber area on the southern fringes of the provincial capital on Tuesday night. Three policemen were injured in the grenade attack.

CTD said that the operation was going on in Darra Adamkhel area of Kohat, when terrorists opened fire on the police personnel. The IS-K commander was killed in exchange of fire with the police.

The statement said that commander Bilal was among the founding members of the IS-K and also carrying Rs500,000 head money.
