VACCINATION ISSUES

Published January 20, 2022

VACCINATION ISSUES: As Covid cases continue to surge across the country, the government has rightly been urging the people to get themselves vaccinated. However, there are some issues in the vaccination process that need to be addressed. The vaccinators at the Expo Centre in Karachi do not have any cotton swab to clean the blood post-injection or elastoplast to put on the site. I wonder if they are even using a fresh needle every time. The relevant authorities should look into the matter.

A CAPABLE NATION: This refers to the report “Pakistani’s research leads to first pig-to-human transplant” (Jan 12). This is indeed a great moment of pride for the whole nation and it implies that we also have the ability to be as great and prosperous as any country. The likes of Dr Muhammad Mohiuddin and Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan are reflections of the potential and capabilities we have in the country. The government should encourage the youth to use their talent for the betterment of the country.

A SERIOUS MATTER: The government has ordered an inquiry into the affairs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC), which is a good step. In fact, instead of a single inquiry, the KPPSC should be restructured with serving officers replacing the retired members. Also, the number of members should be doubled and at least 40 candidates should be interviewed by each panel every day.

LACK OF INTEREST: The session of the provincial assembly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had to be adjourned for the second time in two weeks due to lack of quorum. It indicates that the members are least interested in carrying out legislative business. Such a non-serious behaviour is against the spirit of the Constitution. The lawmakers should ensure their presence in assembly sessions. After all, they had sought public votes to do just that, didn’t they?
