ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: Federal Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao on Thursday informed the Senate that a total of 104,075 Pakistanis had been deported by different countries in the past two years. In a written reply to a question of Awami National Party Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, the minister said these Pakistanis had been deported for various reasons which included entry refusal, loss of documents, rejection of asylum, criminal offences, overstay and crossing border illegally.

Senator Dr Mohammad Saad said the number was very high and it showed that 142 Pakistanis had been deported per day in the last two years. He questioned as to what steps the government had taken to check the practice.

Minister of State for Interior Dr Shahzad Waseem said earlier Pakistan had been put on the watch-list.

However, he said, the government had taken various steps to check the practice due to which the country’s name was removed from the watch-list.
