ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: A senior doctor of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) lost his decade-long battle with the authorities for promotion when the health ministry dismissed him from service on Thursday.

A letter from Pims administration informed Dr Shahid Amin Haider, anaesthetist (BS-19), that he may appeal to the Appellant Authority that is the prime minister, against the dismissal within 15 days.

Dr Haider said he was charged with negligence of duty by the hospital administration in August last year after he accused the administration of pressuring him into surrendering his right of promotion granted by the Federal Public Service Commission and pending for 12 years.

The charge that he refused to attend emergency had followed his allegation that Pims’ executive director had distorted his Annual Confidential Report 2003 with “unsubstantiated and prejudiced remarks.”
