MALAKAND: Noted Pashto folk singer and rights activist Sardar Yousafzai has said that he will contest the upcoming local government elections as an independent candidate for the slot of tehsil chairmanship.

Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he said he had decided to take part in the upcoming LG polls scheduled to be held in March on the demand of local people, relatives and fans.

Mr Yousafzai said it seemed that people in general had lost confidence in political parties while rising inflation and unemployment had multiplied their problems.

The folk singer hailed from Aladhand Derai village in Baizai tehsil of Malakand district and had a good following as folk artist and rights activist.

He said he had refused offers from local heads of the political parties and was determined to contest the LG elections as an independent candidate.

He said that the people pressed him to contest the LG polls for the tehsil chairman slot.
