LAKKI MARWAT: Bannu deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi on Saturday banned pillion riding and firing in the air for 10 days to ensure smooth conduct of the anti-polio drive starting from Jan 17 (Monday).

An official said the ban was imposed on the request of the district police officer under section 144 of CrPC as the police feared the pillion riding, firing in the air and use of tinted glass in vehicles might lead to any untoward incident during the anti-polio campaign.

The order also banned display of weapons and plying of unregistered motorcycles, and directed the quarters concerned to implement the restrictions in letter and spirit.

In a separate development, a man was killed and two others were injured when rivals traded fire near a petrol pump in the Lakki city, the police said on Saturday.

They identified the deceased as Hamayun, 53, hailing from Sra Darga area.

They said a dispute over women led to the exchange of fire, adding one of the injured, Inamullah had been arrested. They said the other injured, Mohammad Awais, was a passerby caught up in the firing. The police shifted the body and the wounded men to the Government City Hospital.

A complainant, Sehar Bibi told the police that her brother-in-law Hamayun was attacked by Inamullah, Younas and Moeen as soon as he along with her descended from a passenger coach. She said Hamayun died instantly.

However, injured Inamullah told the police in his preliminary report that Hamayun, Sarfraz and Rehmatullah attacked him when he was going to the Lakki city from the judicial complex on a motorcycle.

The police registered separate cases.
