SWAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Friday lauded mediapersons’ sacrifices for bringing peace to the militancy-hit Swat valley.

He was speaking to journalists after administering oath to the newly-elected members of the Swat Press Club and the Swat Union of Journalists here.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, district development advisory committee chairman Fazal Hakim Khan, MPA Sharafat Ali and provincial secretary information Arshad Khan were also in attendance.

Mr Mahmood said he expected the journalists to work collectively work for the district’s development. “Journalists are the eyes and ears of society, so they should point out the weaknesses of the government to help it overcome them. They should also highlight the initiatives taken by the government for people’s welfare,” he said.

The chief minister said the PTI government was taking steps for journalists’ welfare. “I will take solid steps for betterment of the Swat journalists,” he assured.

Mehmood Khan also announced construction of a new building of the Swat Press Club, and assured to order issuance of allotment letters of the media colony by June.
