LAKKI MARWAT: The district development committee has approved rehabilitation and widening of the Michenkhel Adda-Shah Hasankhel portion of the Lakki-Shahbazkhel Road at cost of Rs100 million.

Talking to Dawn on Friday, MPA Munawar Khan said the project was approved by the committee headed by Lakki Marwat deputy commissioner Iqbal Hussain Bacha a few days ago, and that the tendering process would begin soon.

He claimed the provincial government had approved the project on his request and allocated funds for it in the Annual Development Programme.

He said the rural road was of vital importance as it linked dozens of villages with the Lakki city.

He said widening of the road had been the longstanding demand of area people.

LAND DISPUTE SETTLED: A local welfare committee on Friday settled a 20-year-old land dispute between rival groups in Nar Jafar area of Bannu.

The enmity between the families of Malik Abid Khan of Mir Akbar Kallay and Malik Rizwan Khan of Mir Jafar Kallay had claimed four lives.

The committee members met the elders from both the sides and convinced them to patch up their differences.

MPA Malik Pakhtoonyar Khan, who was also present on the occasion, congratulated elders of both the families and urged them to exhibit tolerance and promote peace in the area.

ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: Bannu deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi kicked off a five-day anti-polio drive by administering polio drops to several children at a function held on Friday.

Officials of the health department and partner organisations were present on the occasion.

A health official said the department had completed all arrangements for starting the polio eradication campaign from Jan 17 (Monday).

He said the health department had formed 1,194 teams, including 68 fixed, to immunise 213,636 children against the crippling disease.

On the occasion, Mr Zubair called upon parents to cooperate with the polio teams to ensure vaccination of their children.
