KASUR: At least five people were killed while 10 others, including four women suffered injuries in five incidents of roof collapse here on Saturday amid torrential rains.
Separately, at least eight buffaloes were killed while 15 suffered injuries as the roof of the newly-constructed outhouse collapsed due to rain.
In the first incident, a man and his son died as the dilapidated roof of the house caved in due to rain at village Halarkay Peemar in the limits of Kot Radha Kishan police station.
Barkat Ali, 75, and his son Muhammad Yaqoob, 45, were asleep in a room of his house. Both father and son were buried alive as the roof of the room collapsed. Rescue 1122 personnel and locals recovered the bodies from the debris.
A shopkeeper, Muhammad Rasheed, was buried alive when the roof of his shop on Qadiwind Road collapsed in Saddar police precincts. Rescuers took out the body of Rasheed and shifted it to DHQ Hospital.
In another incident, 16-year-old Sania Bibi died while four of the family members sustained injuries at village Veeram Hithar in Khudian area. The injured include Ali Ahmed, 20, Sana Bibi, 18, Ali Ahmed,14, and Ali Raza, 10. The injured were rushed to DHQ Hospital where two of - Raza and Ahmed - were stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, six of a family, including three women, suffered serious injuries as the roof of the room they were sitting in caved in near Sports Stadium Phoolnagar.
The injured include Bashiran Bibi, 35, Ubaidullah, 9, Rimsha Bibi, 26, Hira Bibi, 35, Abdullah, 2, and Abid Ali, 26. Toddler Abdullah was referred to Lahore from Phoolnagar Trauma Centre owing to his critical condition.
At Lakhnaykay village, bodies of at least eight buffaloes of farmer Muhktar Ali were recovered from the debris of his newly-constructed haveli that collapsed due to rain. However, rescuers took out 15 buffaloes from the debris in injured condition.
In another incident, a man and a buffalo died and four of his buffaloes were injured on Saturday at Nandanpur in the limits of Khudian police station.
