KARACHI, Nov 21: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro on Monday directed the education department officials to make all out efforts for proper and timely utilization of funds provided by the federal government for early childhood education and adult literacy programmes.

It is worth mentioning here that Federal Education Minister Lt-Gen Javed Ashraf Qazi had requested Dr Khuhro at a meeting held few days back to timely utilize all the funds provided by the federal government as the provincial education department was not properly using these funds.

Dr Khuhro gave these directives while presiding over a meeting to review the projects of Non Formal and Basic Education (NFBE) at her office.

The director of the Monitoring and Evaluation Wing of the Federal Education Ministry, Brig Tariq Mahmood and officials of the planning, development and finance wings of the Sindh education department also attended the meeting.

The visiting team of the federal education ministry requested Dr Khuhro to review all the projects and components of the NFBE including Early Childhood Education and Adult Literacy Programmes.

The team suggested formation of a committee to monitor the performance of NGOs running adult literacy schools in Sindh under the NFBE.

Dr Khuhro directed the education officials to improve the functioning of the NGOs running non-formal schools to ensure transparency.

She asked the concerned authorities to present progress reports of all the components of the NFBE on a monthly basis so that the federal authorities could be approached for the timely release of funds.—PPI
