PROFIT AMBIGUITY: The announcement by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) related to the increase in the profit rate on savings accounts by 1.5 percentage points to a minimum of 7.25pc by Dec 1 is a much-awaited relief for those keeping the money in teh routine savings accounts in banks. However, the SBP did not state whether or not the return on Term Deposit Receipts (TDRs) kept with the banks will also stand increased. It will help if the SBP clarified the issue.

MYSTERIOUS DEATHS: A year after the tragic death of Nimirta Kumari in Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana, Nosheen Kazmi joined her in eternity in the same manner. Initial observations suggest that it was a case of suicide, but there are many questions that have remained unanswered. The authorities need to leave no stone unturned while investigating the matter.

HELPING THE HOMELESS: Winter is a beautiful season, but it can be brutal for those living under the open skies in freezing cold without warm clothes and blankets. A ride around the city is good enough to find a number of homeless and helpless people shivering by the roadside. We can donate them our extra warm clothes and blankets and help them survive the winter. A little act can go a long way. Let us help the homeless and the helpless.

RUDE STAFF: Mirpurkhas is one of the most badly-managed districts in Sindh. And within the district, the office of the district education officer (DEO) happens to be the worst of all the local departments. Recently, the DEO announced the document submission process for the successful candidates against junior elementary school teacher (JEST) and primary school teacher (PST) posts. When the DEO office was approached, the attitude of the staff was downright insulting. The local authorities should take due action in the matter.
