RAWALPINDI: At a hurriedly called Press briefing at about midnight today [Dec 3], a Defence Services spokesman told newsmen that … the In­­dians have now attacked West Pakistan at seven points at about 12 noon today. Regular Indian troops moved towards our border posts, manned by Rangers. On being challenged, they opened up with small arms fire, wounding some of our men. The Rangers fired back in self-defe­nce. The In­­d­i­ans subsequently opened up with their artillery. The spokesman said the Indians have attacked almost simultaneously in Shak­ar­garh salient, Ka­­s­ur border, Husseiniwala headworks, Chamb and Rahim Yar Khan, opposite Rajasthan, well inside Punjab. The Indians also mounted artillery action in the Poonch area. … The Indian ground action was supported by the Indian Air Force.

… This evening the PAF bombed a number of forward Indian airfields including Amritsar, Pathankot, Avantipura and Srinagar. All the PAF planes returned to safely to their airfields.

[Meanwhile, news agencies add,] Complete dusk-to-dawn blackout will be observed throughout Sind province according to an announcement by the Provincial Government... . Any person violating the blackout regulations will be severely punished… . Complete blackout has also been ordered throughout … Punjab and NWFP.
