KARACHI, Nov 18: Survey of high-rise buildings in Karachi has been started as 10 joint teams of KBCA, civil defence and fire brigade department of city government surveyed buildings in Saddar Town on Friday.

The survey of high-rises in the city has been started on the directives of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal and Saddar has been chosen as model town.

The teams while conducting survey of high-rise buildings in Saddar Town on Friday gathered different sorts of data. Report of the survey will be presented to the city nazim within 10 days.

Each team was comprised of a deputy controller of building, an assistant controller of building, a fire station officer and a representative of respective town.

During the survey, the teams would know whether precautionary measures including civil defence and fire evacuation had been taken or not while construction of such buildings. It would also be surveyed that whether these buildings were suitable for residence or not besides noting down plot number, name of the owner, number of floors in the building and other necessary information.

The survey would be completed within 10 days after which the report will be presented to the city nazim.

In this connection, a high-powered committee has been formed on the directives of city nazim.

KBCA Chief Controller Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, DO civil defence & fire brigade Shoaib Waqar, Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali, KBCA controller Shafiq Ahmed, Additional DO civil defence & fire brigade Shafi Muhammad, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Naeem Yousuf, additional controller civil defence & fire brigade Ghulam Qadir Bhutto and concerned town controller building are members of the committee.

Children day: The Community Development Department of city government is holding a mega event at Safari Park on Nov 20, the Universal Children Day being celebrated across the globe.

The event includes puppet show, magic show, baby show, pet exhibition, skating show, gymnastic competition etc. To add more colours to the event, cartoon characters and fun-fair stalls will also be arranged.—PPI
