DANGEROUS ROAD

Published December 2, 2021

DANGEROUS ROAD: Ever since the work was initiated on the Azad Pattan hydropower project back in 2016, travelling on the road adjacent to the worksite is no less than a misery. The 10km dangerous road leads to Azad Kashmir and has been in a dilapidated condition due to continuous movement of heavy machinery. Currently, the road has been closed for traffic during daytime to expedite work on the project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2027. The government should arrange a workable service road or a diversion to avoid mass human suffering.

DETERIORATING EDUCATION: Just about 35 per cent students obtained the passing marks in the recent admission test conducted by the Sindh University, Jamshoro. Even those who worked hard failed to cross the threshold of 60pc. This is the result of having below-standard learning, improper education system and primitive curriculum. The testimony should be enough for us to realise that the country desperately needs proper steps regarding the education system.

DECREPIT PASSAGES: I am a resident of Drigh Road cantonment area in Karachi, and use Sharea Faisal to connect with other parts of the city. To get on to the main road, we have to cross a railway track through British-era passages that remain filled with heaps of garbage and sewage, making it impossible for the residents to use them. The authorities concerned should have these passages cleared.

WAKE-UP CALL: The continuous and ever-increasing movement of water tankers on the University Road, from NIPA towards the University of Karachi, is destroying the road and creating traffic mess during rush hours. There are potholes and bumps aplenty. Besides, reckless driving by tanker drivers may cause some major mishap anytime. The authorities need to wake up before it is too late.
