ISLAMABAD, Nov 17: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Thursday that maintenance of public order, combating crimes and providing speedy justice were the top priorities of the government and it would spare no efforts to achieve the objectives.

Speaking at the passing out parade of the Police College, Sihala, the prime minister said individual freedom, protection of human rights and social justice were the fundamentals of a peaceful society and police had to play an important role to achieve the objectives. He said police could fulfil its obligations only by adopting the motto of public service and dedication.

He said the government was aware of the difficulties being faced by police in maintaining law and order, combating terrorism and controlling crimes and it was committed to providing all possible resources to meet the challenges.

He stressed that police would have to improve its skill and standard of training and acquire latest techniques to come up to the expectations of people. He said the police department was an important tool of state machinery and it would have to improve its image and adopt a public friendly behaviour.

He said the time had come to make police people friendly and service oriented. He called for adoption of modern scientific approach in investigation.

Mr Aziz said police must adopt self-accountability and change their thinking, attitude and character besides improving their professional capabilities.
