KARACHI, Nov. 17: The Customs preventive staff foiled an attempt to smuggle out 7.25 kg heroin powder to Cameroon at Jinnah International Airport. A Customs preventive spokesman said on Thursday that off-white heroin powder was concealed in an export consignment and was intercepted prior to the examination by the Export Collectorate.

The consignment was being smuggled under the garb of export of embroidery and sewing thread used in the sewing machines along with other goods by a Nigerian identified as Ifeanyichukwe Joel Onwuka through freight forwarders.

The heroin powder was recovered from small polythene bags concealed inside the thread reel over which the embroidery and sewing thread reels was wrapped.

Following the seizure, the Nigerian national has been arrested from a city hotel for violation of Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 and the case has been referred to the investigation and prosecution branch of the Custom House.
