KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday allowed a petition of former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon seeking permission to travel abroad.

However, a two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Karim Khan directed him to deposit Rs1 million as surety and return back before April 2022.

The lawyer for the petitioner submitted that the Sindh government had appointed Mr Memon as its focal person for the ongoing Dubai Expo 2020 and he had to visit the UAE.

The prosecutor for the National Accountability Bureau submitted that the petitioner might be allowed to visit overseas against a surety while a federal law officer also adopted the same stance.

Last year, the SHC had directed the authorities to place the names of the petitioner and other suspects on the Exit Control List after confirming their interim pre-arrest bail in a corruption reference about accumulation of assets beyond means.
