MIT chapter in Kolkata

Published November 17, 2005

KOLKATA: Massachusetts Institute of Technology will soon set up a chapter here. The renowned US university will send a team to work out the details in the last week of December, state finance minister ` Dasgupta has announced.

MIT’s Kolkata chapter will serve a two-fold purpose: One, coordination with the state’s institutes of excellence in research activities of mutual interest. Two, exchange of scholars.

Under the exchange programme, MIT faculty members will deliver lectures at these institutes while teachers from the city will serve as faculty at MIT. Students from Kolkata will get a chance to study in MIT; their studies could be jointly funded.—Dawn/Times of India News Service
