Armed men ‘besiege’ PML-N leader’s house in Bajaur

BAJAUR: Unidentified armed men besieged the house of a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s local leader for some time in Haji Lawang area here on Thursday night.

Talking to reporters on Friday, Nawab Zada Waheed Khan, who is also an aspirant for the tehsil nazim slot in the local body elections, said a group of 30 to 40 armed people besieged his house and guest room (hujra), and starting throwing stones on his residence.

He said he informed the relevant authorities immediately in order to avoid any unpleasant incident. He said the armed men, who also threatened to kill him, left the area after a while.

Mr Waheed said he had no personal enmity with anyone in the region.

Meanwhile, PML-N provincial vice-president and former MNA from Bajaur, Shahabuddin Khan strongly condemned the incident.

In a statement issued on Friday, he asked the authorities to investigate the matter. He said no one knew from where such people came and went.

The former lawmaker also urged the authorities to provide foolproof security to the party leader.

The police department’s public relations officer Suleman Khan did not respond to the calls to know his various on the matter.

TIMBER SMUGGLING BID FOILED: The police seized two trucks laden with wood and arrested two persons the other day.

According to a statement, two timber smuggling attempts were foiled by separate police teams in Cando Sar and Bigal areas of Salarzai tehsil.

The statement said soon after receiving information from credible sources that some men were planning to move a huge quantity of precious timber out of the region, district police officer Abdul Samad Khan formed two separate teams to foil the bid.

The timber was seized and two people indentified as Mujibur Rahman and Saidur Rahman belonging to Lar Matoor area of Salarzai and Shahnari locality of Khar were arrested.
