ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has called for expediting the process of digitisation of parliament to enable it to handle the legislative business quickly and efficiently.

He said the automation of parliament would increase the performance of the two houses of parliament, besides helping them in taking quick decision.

Mr Alvi stated this while chairing a meeting on President’s Initiative for Cyber-Efficient Parliament here on Wednesday.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, MNA Sher Ali Arbab, National Assembly Secretariat secretary Tahir Hussain, Secretary of Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Dr Sohail Rajput and Secretary of Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh attended the meeting at the Parliament House.

The meeting was apprised of the progress on digitisation of parliament.

The meeting was informed that the PC-I of the project had been submitted to the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, said a press release.

The meeting constituted a steering committee to oversee technicalities involved in the project and facilitate the digitisation.

Addressing the meeting, the president underlined that the country could not afford delay in the automation of parliament. He asked all relevant stakeholders to complete the project before January 2023.
