LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday arrested its own assistant director in the Rs75 million bank scam.

“Assistant Director Rab Nawaz Sial (of banking circle Lahore) has been arrested on the charges of helping out suspects in the Rs75 million bank scam after receiving bribe,” FIA Lahore Director Muhammad Rizwan said here on Monday.

“Instead of recovering the amount from the suspects, the assistant director in question colluded with the accused and tried to destroy the evidence,” said the director, who ordered his arrest in the light of investigation.

The FIA director has also constituted a separate team to probe into the assets of Sial and his family members. A case has been registered against Sial under the relevant charges.

Meanwhile, a separate FIA team constituted to probe the matter has recovered Rs15m from the suspects.
