POA presses for no re-elections

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) are reportedly impressing upon the concerned authorities not to press for reelction of those federations which recently conducted polls but violated provisions of sports policy.

The national sports federations are bound to hold elections under the new national sports policy by the deadline of April 15.

A high-level delegation of POA recently met the sports authorities here Monday to plead their case relating to reelection.

They appealed to the officials not to press for elections of those bodies which had undergone election pro-cess in the recent weeks or months.

“Instead, these federations can have new elections under the new national sports policy for the next term”, the POA office-bearers are reported to have pleaded with concerned officials.

Under the sports police, the top three office-bearers cannot contest for more than two terms of four-years each for any of these posts which are: president, secretary and treasurer.

Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) had recently reelected the same office-bearers who had already completed two terms of four years each. A couple of other federations have also followed suite.

It is learnt that POA officials submitted letter from IOC to the authorities but failed to strengthen their case against implementation of new national sports policy.—APP
