DADU: As many as 5,868 candidates, among them 2,028 girls, appeared in the first phase of pre-entry test for admission to 57 disciplines in bachelor’s degree programme in the University of Sindh on Saturday.
The university decided to hold the test in phases to preempt spread of coronavirus since a total of 25,000 male and female candidates from across Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan had applied for admission, said SU spokesman Nadir Ali Mugheri in a press release.
The test was held at Allama I.I. Kazi campus in Jamshoro, and other campuses in Hyderabad, Badin, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Thatta and Naushaharo Feroze, he said.
He said that admit cards were issued to candidates through the e-portals they had created on the varsity’s website. The test started at about 10:32 am after fatiha was offered for the departed soul of the director of Institute of Languages, Dr Hafiz Zainul Abideen Sodhar, who was killed by robbers in Karachi late on Friday night. Two-minute silence was also observed to pay respects to the slain scholar.
Pro-vice chancellor of SU Thatta campus Prof Dr Rafique Ahmed Memon, who supervised the test, said it was held in a peaceful manner and students from Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Karachi, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tando Allahyar and Tando Mohammad Khan sat the exam in the first phase.
He said that 6006 candidates from Badin, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Thatta and Umerkot would take the test on the second day of the first phase of the test on Sunday.
Temporary medical dispensaries were set up outside examination centers and an ambulance was kept on standby to handle emergency situation while policemen and SU’s security guards were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
The university’s director of admissions said that the test results would be announced the same day and the second phase of the test would be held on Nov 6 and 7.
