MULTAN, Nov 13: Michael Vaughan, the injured England captain, believes he will get fit in time to play the second Test of the series against Pakistan at Faisalabad starting next Sunday.

Vaughan was forced out of the ongoing first Test after injuring his right knee during a practice match against Pakistan ‘A’ at Bagh-i-Jinnah a few days ago.

Marcus Trescothick took over the captaincy for opening Test while young batsman Alastair Cook arrived here on Friday as cover for Vaughan.

But on Sunday, Vaughan, the 31-year-old Yorkshireman, did some light running during the luncheon interval and pledged to give his best try to come into contention for the Faisalabad Test.

Apparently, Vaughan did not feel much discomfort as he jogged for a while.

“It’s my best chance of staying on this tour if I get fit for the Test in Faisalabad next Sunday. If not, then there is no point in hanging around here. But there is still a little hope,” he said.
