KARACHI: As many as three more patients of the coronavirus died overnight and 379 new cases emerged when 16,546 people underwent Covid test.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the deaths during the past 24 hours lifted the toll to 7,551, constituting 1.6 per cent death rate.

Mr Shah said 16,546 samples were tested which detected 379 cases, forming 2.3pc current detection rate.

The CM said that currently 11,695 patients were under treatment, including 11,436 in home isolation, 29 at isolation centres and 230 at different hospitals.

He added that the condition of 228 patients was stated to be critical, including 16 shifted to ventilators.

According to the CM, of the 379 new cases, 49 have been detected in Karachi, including 23 in East, eight in Korangi, six each in Malir and South, four in West and two in Central.
