KARACHI: The city administration on Thursday informed the Sindh High Court that it could not succeed in fixing the official price of fresh milk due to a rigid attitude of milk producers and sellers at the stakeholders’ meetings.

A division bench headed by Justice K. K. Agha was seized with a set of petitions filed against the provincial and local administration as well as the Sindh Food Authority over their alleged failure to ensure the sale of milk at officially notified rate i.e Rs94 a litre.

The petitioners submitted in court that the in some parts of Karachi milk was being sold at around Rs140 a litre. They also questioned the quality of milk offered to citizens.

In the previous hearing last month, the SHC had directed the Karachi commissioner to sit together with SFA officials and representatives of milk sellers’ association to decide the official rate and also ensure quality of fresh milk. The commissioner was asked to submit in court a proper statement containing the approved guidelines.
