KARACHI: A sessions court on Wednesday ordered registration of a case against six police officials for implicating an illegally detained man in a false drugs case over non-payment of bribe.

Station House Officer of Saddar police station Arshad Afridi, Inspector Amir Virk, Sub-Inspectors Tahir Naveed, Waheed, Arshad Mehmood and policewoman Sumaiya were booked in the case on the directives of the court.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Naseer Noor Khan also issued bailable warrants directing them to appear before the court on Oct 22.

The judge passed these directives on a direct complaint lodged by Tahira Jabeen, who had approached the court seeking registration of a case against the SHO and other officials of the Saddar police station.

Earlier, Advocate Fawad Ali Khichi submitted that a police party had taken away his client’s son Israr Ahmed from his house along with four other residents of the Iqra Complex apartments during a raid on April 22.

He further submitted that when the complainant approached the Saddar police station Inspector Amir Virk disclosed to have released other men and demanded Rs150,000 bribe for releasing her son.

The complainant told the police officials that she being a widow could not arrange such a huge amount of money upon which the police officials booked her son in a false case of possessing contraband substance called ‘ice’, the counsel said.

On the request of the complainant, an inquiry conducted by Judicial Magistrate Ali Sher Chandio revealed that the nominated police officials kept her son in unlawful detention and booked him in a false case over non-payment of bribe for his release.

On the basis of the judicial inquiry, the sessions judge ordered registration of a case under Sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 211 (false charge of offence made with intent to injure) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
