PM Imran insists on use of EVMs in next polls

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday vowed that polling would be conducted through electronic voting machines (EVMs) in general elections of 2023 at any cost.
Presiding over a meeting of core committee of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the prime minister also said that overseas Pakistanis would surely cast their ballots in the next general elections in the country.
When contacted, a source privy to the meeting quoted the prime minister as saying: “Next election will be held through EVMs at any cost. Overseas Pakistanis (should) be ready as they will cast their votes in the next elections.”
Mr Khan said the nation would celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi this year for an entire week starting on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal.
The meeting also discussed the situation in Afghanistan in detail and pondered over the strategies that could be adopted to deal with the emerging situation.
About inflation in the country, the prime minister was of the opinion that it was still lower than in many countries. He directed the PTI leaders to apprise the voters in their constituencies about the high prices of food items in international markets.
He also gave a go-ahead for holding local body elections in the country and tasked top PTI officials with visiting constituencies in Punjab to lay the groundwork in this regard.
Meeting on electricity
At a separate meeting, Mr Khan was briefed on the supply of electricity at subsidised rates during winter for heating purposes. The federal cabinet has already decided that a relief of Rs7 would be given to the consumers in winter so that consumption of natural gas could be reduced.
The prime minister also met a delegation from the PTI’s doctors’ wing. On the occasion he said the capacity of Pakistani doctors is recognised all over the world.

It looks like that PM knows majority of Pakistanis in Pakistan will not vote for him so he is counting on EVM and overseas Pakistanis. Being an overseas Pakistani, I know that a lot of overseas are now totally against this government’s policies and will not vote for him.

Look at the priorities. At the time when dollar is breaking records and is out of control, trade deficit is as high as PMLN 2018 level and the debt level is at record high with a looming fourth COVID wave, Mr PM is worried about his re-election or re-selection whatever you may call it.

@FN, all overseas Canadians, Americans, British, Germans and many other Europeans vote at their respective embassies in whichever country they happen to reside in. So I think your example is not reflective of the reality that exists in the developed world.

So the whole drama of EVMs is just to enable overseas Pakistanis to vote. PTI is popular in Pakistani diaspora; however, no sane local Pakistani is going to vote PTI this time.

If the Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs, as commonly known, could be successfully used in the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and other industrialized nations of the world, why can't the same machines be effectively used in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan?

Excellent decisions:
1. EVMs are needed to stop poll rigging by PMLN & PPP.
2. Overseas Pakistanis who are pretty much financing the country must get the right to participate in elections.

Their is a reason The USA don't use EVMs anymore in any state.
Their is a reason The UK and most of Europe and Australia Canada dont use them.
In the US they were used twice both times their was rigging and matter went to court and courts said their was rigging going on.

With all due respect Mr. PM, inflation and cost of living cannot be swept under the rug by simply stating g that the “It’s still lower than a lot of countries”
A lot of tinsel countries don’t have 225 million people suffering from high prices, and more importantly, those citizens from other countries won’t be voting come next elections in Pakistan. You are shooting yourself in the foot with that attitude. No way you win Punjab with that mindset. No way.
