LAHORE: Bank accounts of at least 1.1 million workers are being opened in Punjab to help them get timely payment of their wages through ATMs and mobile vaults and get discounts at 150 commercial outlets.

This was stated by Social Security Commissioner Syed Bilal Haider while briefing Labour Secretary Liaqat Chatha and others at a meeting here on Thursday to review the performance of the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI).

Mr Chatha was informed about the construction of new hospitals, Punjab Mazdoor Card, Hospital Management Information System, and Social Security Cash Benefit Mobile Application.

Mr Haider said that for the first time accounts of 1.1 million workers were being opened with the help of the Bank of Punjab to ensure the timely payment of financial benefits, and avail facilities like ATMs, mobile vaults, discounts at more than 150 commercial outlets.

He said after the success of the Rehmatul Alameen Institute of Cardiology, the Hospital Management Information System would be implemented in all social security hospitals in a span of two years.

Workers were being paid financial benefits under the social security at their homes through the PESSI Cash Benefit mobile app within 10 days, he said.
