SWABI: Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, who was appointed by President Dr Arif Alvi as Rector of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, has assumed charge of his new assignment, said officials on Thursday.

Prof Khalid is a prominent academician and researcher having rich experience of academia-industry linkages. He is actively involved in the change and paradigm shift to implement Outcome-Based Education (OBE) of engineering disciplines, quality assurance and accreditation manual to harmonise with Washington Accord and Continuous Professional Development for international recognition of engineers.

Prof Khalid was awarded Sitara-i- Imtiaz for his contribution in the field of science and technology.

He has also served as Punjab Higher Education Commission chairman; vice-chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, (Dec 2014-2018), and acting VC of Punjab Tianjin University of Technology.

In addition, he has served in GIK Institute as pro-rector (academics) and dean of the Faculty of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering.

KILLED: A man, identified as Manzoor Khan, was shot dead in Bycoat area of Maneri Bala village here on Thursday, said Swabi city police SHO Ajab Durrani.

It was stated that a few days ago Manzoor was allegedly warned by Zia Mohammad and Shahyan Khan that he should not come to their area after their sister complained that he was teasing her. The two allegedly shot Manzoor dead when they noticed him in the area.

The police registered an FIR and have started investigations.
