SAHIWAL: An accused facing a rape trial fled the Yousafwala police custody at the district courts here on Wednesday.

District Police Officer Sadiq Hussain suspended ASI Rahat Nazir and constables Mushtaq and Mustafa for negligence. The accused (whose name is being withheld) allegedly raped a female dancer in village 80/5-L on Jan 11.

He booked two dancer sisters, of Okara, for a wedding function in village 80/5-L. When both dancers with their mother arrived in the village, they found there was no function.

The accused raped one of the dancers while his two accomplices threatened other dancers with consequences. The police registered a case against the three people, and of them the main rape suspect was arrested in Karachi last week.

SUSPENDED: A Chichawattni Tehsil Headquarters Hospital paramedic was suspended from job on Thursday for slapping a child patient at the emergency ward on Sept 13.

The action was taken in the light of an inquiry report. The incident happened when an injured child was brought o the emergency ward where dispenser Anwar slapped him and later misbehaved with his attendants.

The paramedics stopped other staff from attending the child. The injured child was Anwar’s nephew as he has some issues with his elder brother. The child’s father reported the matter to the health director who ordered an inquiry into the incident.
