PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has completed the reconstruction of 70 flood-affected government schools in different parts of the province.

All the reconstructed schools have been handed over to the elementary and secondary education department. Similarly, the reconstruction of 40 more quake-resistant schools is in progress, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.

The reconstructed schools included 19 in Swat, seven each in Lower and Upper Dir, four in Malakand, five in Shangla, 16 in Nowshera, five in Charsadda, six in Dera Ismail Khan and one in Peshawar.

The PDMA was tasked with the reconstruction of the damaged schools by the end of 2017.

With the reconstruction of these schools, the local communities have started enrolling children in the institutions.

PDMA director general Shareef Hussain said boundary walls were also constructed and the schools were equipped with furniture and power supply.

He said ramps and separate toilets for special children had also been provided in these schools.
