HYDERABAD, Jan 24: A gang of five unidentified armed robbers looted Rs987,000 from the Site branch of the Allied Bank Limited in broad daylight on Thursday.
The five robbers armed with TT pistols arrived at the branch and disarmed a bank guard, Zameer Siyal, and a policeman, Mumtaz Shah. Three of them went inside the branch and held its manager, Abdul Rasheed, on gun point.
They took the keys of the strong room where they locked the manager, the bank guard, the policeman, and a cashier, Shahmir Memon. They then stole cash from there.
The robbers fled immediately after looting the bank.
Soon after the robbery, the DIG, police, Hyderabad Range, Abdul Rauf Yusufzai, SSP Moazam Jah, and other police officials arrived there. They arrested the guard and the policeman. Their finger prints were also obtained.
The DSP, CIA, too was called there.
After recording the statements of some witnesses, police released the sketches of three of the robbers to the press.
STATEMENT RECORDED: The First Extra Joint Civil Judge, Ms Shagufta Kaka, recorded her statement before the Anti-Terrorism Court Judge on Thursday in a kidnapping-for-ransom case of Airaj Ameen Khaksheli, son of a Forest Department official.
She told the court that the accused were produced before her by the police, and added that a complainant, Khamiso Qambrani, identified all of them.
She recalled that M. Alam Khaskheli, uncle of the hostage, recorded his statement under section 164 Cr.PC.
She was cross-examined by the defence counsels, A. Bachayo Soomro, Irfan Ali Kalhoro, and Naseer Abro among others.
ACCOUNTABILITY COURT: The Accountability Court Judge on Thursday recorded the statements of three defence witnesses — officials of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and the FIA during the hearing of a case against an assistant engineer, PTCL, Manzoor Bhutto.
