Fish aquariums coming up in Punjab's wildlife zoos

LAHORE: Private fish tanks are becoming a ‘must’ part of to interior design of houses, restaurants and other such places.

The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department has decided to establish fish aquarium in all wildlife zoos and parks across Punjab and in this regard the first of its kind freshwater fish aquarium has been established at the Lahore Zoo featuring some 15 fish species. Children as well as adults show a great deal of interest in fancy, beautiful multicolour fish.

Lahore Zoo Deputy Director Kiran Saleem, elaborating the concept of establishing the fish aquarium at Lahore Zoo, said the zoo had an abundant building; it was demolished and a new amusement facility was created.

“The new facility does not charge a separate ticket,” she added.

Ms Saleem said at present 10 standard size aquariums had been built in two blocks at the zoo and two more aquariums would be built in the near future for which the Wildlife Department will advertise a tender.

She said the 10 aquariums had been built with a cost of Rs700,000. The fresh water fish aquarium features 15 species of fish.
