KARACHI, Nov 8: The Sindh education department in a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in the chair on Tuesday announced to withdraw all notifications regarding the teaching of Sindhi Salees and decided to continue the teaching of Sindhi and Urdu languages in accordance with the Sindhi Language Act of 1972 in Class XI in the province.

The meeting also attended by Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro, Secretary Education Ghulam Ali Pasha, Additional Secretary Education Iqbal Durrani and other senior officials, discussed at length the statements and media reports regarding the issue of Sindhi language teaching.

The meeting said that the 1972 Act of Sindhi Language was passed by the Sindh Assembly and any notification issued by any department could not repeal it.

The meeting was further told that neither any change was made in the Act in question nor there was any possibility in the future.

The education department’s notification regarding the teaching of Sindhi Salees in Class XI were issued on the basis of a misunderstanding as they could neither repeal 1972 Act nor they had any value in front of 1972 Act, so all these notifications should be considered null and void.

The meeting further decided that teaching of Sindhi and Urdu languages to the students of Class XI would continue in accordance with the 1972 Languages Act.—PPI
