KARACHI: A court on Friday remanded a man in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency for allegedly harassing a woman and publishing her objectionable pictures on the social media.

The suspect was arrested for his alleged involvement in cyberstalking, harassment and publication of some indecent pictures of the victim on the social media.

On Friday, the investigating officer produced the suspect before the judicial magistrate (East) to seek his physical remand for interrogation and investigation.

The IO submitted that the complainant alleged that the suspect had some indecent pictures of the victim and on the basis of such pictures, he used to blackmail and harass her.

He further submitted that after the victim purportedly refused to fulfil his demands the suspect threatened to publish her pictures on social media, which he finally did to defame her.

The IO claimed that on the complaint of the victim the suspect was taken into custody and the material concerned (pictures of the victim) had successfully been recovered from his mobile phone for forensic analysis.

However, he said custody of the suspect was required to collect further evidence and complete the investigation and other legal formalities.

He requested the court to grant 14-day physical remand of the suspect for interrogation.

The judge, however, remanded the suspect in the custody of the FIA for three days.

The IO was directed to produce him on the next date and also submit an investigation report.

A case was registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 at the FIA’s cyber crimes circle.

Bank heist suspects sent to jail

A judicial magistrate remanded in judicial custody three suspects detained for allegedly looting Rs2 million from a private bank in Karachi.

Police claimed to have arrested Shahzad, Hussain and Jaffer Ali for allegedly committing a bank heist in Saddar on July 24.

On Friday, the IO produced the suspects before the judicial magistrate (South) upon expiry of their physical remand in the custody of the police to seek extension.

He submitted that the trio was involved in looting Rs2m from a bank, adding that the suspects were identified with the help of CCTV footage of the bank.

He claimed that during initial interrogation they had allegedly disclosed to have committed the offence and had spent the looted money on purchase of two cars and a motorcycle, which had been recovered from their possession.

The IO requested an extension in the physical remand of the suspects in police custody to enable him to complete the investigation and other legal formalities.

Turning down the IO’s request, the judge remanded them in judicial custody directing the IO to produce them on the next date along with an investigation report.
