New transport system discussed

LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday chaired a meeting which considered recommendations to launch new transport system in different cities as well as fixing the Orange Line train fare according to the distance.

The meeting, also attended by finance minister Hashim Jawan Bakht, transport minister Jehanzeb Khan Khichi, secretary transport, also reviewed a proposal to start double decker buses in big cities.

The meeting decided that environment-friendly electric buses would be introduced in Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad along with the start of a technology-based latest bus system. He said the scope of the Punjab Transport Company would be extended to remote areas of the province as well.

The chief minister directed strict action against vehicle owners using sub-standard gas cylinders. He sought comprehensive recommendations before the cabinet meeting to take a final decision.

Chief Secretary Jawwad Rafique Malik participated in the meeting through video-link.
